Periods of transition can have a huge impact on student success—and not just academically. When moving from school to school, whether that’s from elementary to middle school, middle school to high school, or between school districts, there are significant challenges in keeping students on track. The effect is evident in the data: more students fail ninth grade than any other (Cohen & Smerdon, 2009) and students experiencing homelessness are 87% more likely to drop out of school than their stably housed peers.

Transition planning as part of your MTSS can provide achievable plans, interventions, and measurable data to identify and track student progress toward success. Listen to district leaders for this edWeb podcast where they share:

  • Steps for reviewing historical end-of-year data and setting clear plans for students’ transitions
  • How to identify what types of data are most important for predicting transition challenges
  • How to identify and execute targeted interventions that go beyond the transition program for all students

This edWeb podcast is of interest to K-12 teachers and school and district leaders.
